Business tax certificates are issued on a calendar year basis, January 1 - December 31. (Example: If an account is opened July 1, it will expire on December 31 of that same year.)
Business tax is based on a calendar year, January 1 - December 31.
Business tax renewal is due on or before March 1 of every year, for the previous calendar year's gross receipts.
NOTE: A renewal, delinquency or other notice or bill is not required to be sent by the City of Oakland and failure to send such notice or bill shall not affect the validity of any tax, penalty or interest due.
SOLE OWNERS OR PARTNERSHIPS:
Required to provide a Social Security/ Driver's License or Other ID Number for all owners/partners.
LLC, LIMITED PARTNERSHIP, TRUST OR CORPORATIONS:
Required to provide the FEIN of the business.

If the business is based outside of Oakland, declare the value of the Oakland job(s)/contract(s).
If the business is Oakland based, provide estimated gross receipts for your first year in business.
Indicate how many units are rented or available for rent in the
Attach non-profit letter of designation from either the Federal or State government before submitting application.
If licensed by the State of California for less than 14 children, attach copy of license before submitting application.
$5.00/employee fee applicable to new and renewing businesses on or after August 1, 2021:
• In town businesses only.
• Applicable to total number of full and part time employees, i.e. business with 3 full and 4-part time employees, pay on total of 7.
• Nonprofits’ not exempt from fee.
Once the application is processed, an email verifying our receipt of the application will be sent, including the amount due and instructions on how to pay online.

Senate Bill 205 went into effect on January 1, 2020, which requires regulated industrial businesses to provide the City of Oakland their Stormwater Permit Number, (WDID #) prior to issuance of a business license.
